Vocation to Ministry comes with baptism, and all of us have different gifts to offer. There are lots of ways to get involved – please get in touch for a conversation. One of the clergy is usually around the office on Gateway on Mondays between 9am and 12pm and for a bit after the daily Masses.

Fr Barry Naylor
Assistant Priest
Fr Barry is retired from paid ministry, is a former Cathedral Canon Residentiary and a former incumbent of St Andrew’s.
Fr Barry is available for confessions and conversations and can be contacted via email.
Fr David Clark
Assistant Priest
Fr David is retired from paid ministry and comes to St Andrew’s most Sundays. He is a professional musician, brings a wealth of experience in interfaith relations and has an expert knowledge of the different communities in the city.

Mr Donald Salt
Welcoming Team
Don organises the welcoming team whose members meet and greet people on Sundays and other events (these are sometimes known as sidespeople).

Mr Eliam Ngoma
Churchwarden / DCC Member
Eliam comes originally from Malawi and has overall responsibility as Churchwarden.
Mrs Elizabeth Amias
Treasurer / DCC Member / Church Care Team
Elizabeth works as an NHS Director and somehow finds the time to be our Treasurer and to do all sorts of other things at St Andrew’s – including running the Church Care Team.
Ms Gillian Aird
DCC Member / Walsingham Cell Secretary
Gill works for Leicester City Council and finds time to be involved in St Andrew’s in all sorts of ways. Contact her if you want to find out about the Cell of Our Lady of Walsingham.
Fr Johannes Arens SMMS
Parish Priest
Fr Johannes grew up in Germany and has been living in the UK permanently since 2004. He used to work for Leicester Cathedral and fell in love with Leicester – a diverse and global city where people from very different communities do their best to be good neighbours, to treat each other with respect and to find common ground.
Mr John Gull
Director of Music
John is an accomplished pianist, singing teacher, conductor,
tenor soloist, organist, piano teacher and composer. Since 2022 he has been organising larger choir projects at St Andrew’s and since summer 2024 is our Director of Music.
There are a number of ways to get involved in the music at St Andrew’s:
- Come and sing with our large Project Choirs (all welcome)
- Vocal ensemble singing (some sightreading required)
- Solo vocal performance with professional pianist/organist (audition required)
- Solo instrumental performance with professional pianist/organist (audition required)
- Instrumental ensemble performance (speak to Director of Music)
Mr Matthew Newman
Head Server
Matt works in engineering and is the first contact for all matters concerning the Serving Team.
Mr Nathan Goodwin
Sacristan
Nathan makes sure all things we need for our worship are in order and in good repair – from metalwork to fabric. He makes sure all is ready for services and all supplies are stocked up.

Mr Peter Black
Deputy Churchwarden / DCC Member
Peter supports Eliam (and everybody else!) in many ways and is also responsible for Hospitality.
Mr Richard Arens
Deanery & Diocesan Synod Representative / DCC Member
Richard represents St Andrew’s on Deanery and Diocesan Synods, and is a member of our serving team. He previously studied Politics with modules in International Relations at Durham University, and now works in the City of London.
He also volunteers on the steering committee for ‘Save The Parish.’

Fr Robin Martin
Assistant Priest
Fr Robin calls St Andrew’s his home unless he is otherwise engaged. Fr Robin was first ordained in 1967 and does help out on occasion.
Mr Sam Edward Thobiyas
Pastoral Assistant / DCC Member
Sam is an Energy Engineer by training and hails from Kerala/India. He is at St Andrew’s via the National Ministry Experience Scheme until December 2024.
Fr Stephen Foster
Assistant Priest & former Chaplain to the University of Leicester
Fr Stephen is retired from paid ministry and is regularly at St Andrew’s two Sundays a month. He can be contacted for confessions or conversations via email.
Dr Timothy Trussell
Parish Safeguarding Officer / DCC Member
Tim works as a GP and is together with the Parish Priest the first contact for all matters of Safeguarding.
Mr Tony Simons
DCC Member / Gardening Team
Tony used to work for Leicester City Council and has been part of St Andrew’s for almost all his life. Tony can be contacted via the Parish Office.
Mrs Wendy Commons
DCC Member
Wendy spent most of her life as part of St Andrew’s and is a fountain of knowledge about all things.
She is also a nominated Contact Person for any Safeguarding concerns.
