You may recall that I asked for some help funding the restoration of the superfrontal for St John’s Chapel some time ago (see here).
Angie Fox has started work by taking things apart and restoring the lettering – it reads ‘Sanctus – Sanctus – Sanctus’ meaning ‘Holy – Holy – Holy.’ Interestingly the original price paid to the person doing the letters was 8 shillings and sixpence per word – times change!
Angie sent some photos of her progress. She took off the letters and the surrounding fabric and sourced new damask to mount the writing on. If you would like to close the £200 funding gap for the restoration please have a word with me!
