The good news is that the carpet is up in the Lady Chapel and that Richard and I removed the staples and the tape from the front half on Tuesday.
However, somebody (!) glued down the underlay (on top of stapling it down), so the only way to remove it is to scrape it off and at the same time pull out the staples as well. Following that I will try to remove the glue with solvent – all very boring and quite hard work.
I am in church both Thursday and Friday morning from 8.30am until midday having a go at this – if you fancy giving me a hand and earning yourself some cake you would be most welcome to join me!
